Kiowa County Community Meeting

Xcel Energy has submitted a Preliminary 1041 Application to Kiowa County for a permit to locate and construct Colorado’s Power Pathway facilities in the county pursuant to the Kiowa County §1041 Regulations. The Preliminary 1041 Application may be reviewed at the Kiowa County Courthouse located at 1305 Goff St., Eads, CO 81036, between August 1 and August 9. Pathway facilities proposed in Kiowa County include approximately 86 miles of new 345-kilovolt double-circuit electric transmission line and the new May Valley Substation. Pathway facilities will be constructed in segments, with approximately 22 miles of Segment 3 and 64 miles of Segment 4 proposed within Kiowa County.

You are invited to attend this Community Meeting to learn about Colorado’s Power Pathway facilities proposed in Kiowa County. Project staff will be available to provide information about the Kiowa County 1041 permit application process and answer questions. Please attend to learn about this important project and provide information about any topics we should consider as part of the 1041 permit application process.

No formal presentation is planned, so please attend at any time during the meeting. If you are unable to attend, meeting materials will be available in our library in the coming weeks.

Next Steps

As we look ahead at next steps for Colorado’s Power Pathway:

  • We will determine the need for additional public meetings in areas where the preferred transmission line route has not been identified.
  • We will continue incorporating link-specific feedback throughout the routing process.
  • Engineering design work will start in segments where the preferred transmission line route has been identified.
  • The county land use permitting process is underway for Segments 1, 2, 3 and 4. There will be additional opportunities for public input during the land use permit process in each jurisdiction, including public hearings held by the counties or other local government agency.
  • Project representatives will reach out to individual landowners to discuss the preferred transmission line route and easements.

Updates will be posted in the coming weeks as routing and permitting progresses; please check back for the most up-to-date information.
